LIST POSTING GUIDELINES

The Scullyslash Consortium has produced these guidelines to assist you in posting discussion and stories to the list. If you have any concerns about it, please consider addressing the ScullySlash Consortium privately at theconsortium@populli.net.

ARCHIVING
Remember that everything you post is archived automatically by the list software at Ma-at.net. While it is ostensibly available to list members only, you might want to ponder Rule of Acquisition 190: hear all, trust nothing.

ATTACHMENTS
Do not send attachments to the list as they are impossible for some people's mailers to deal with. This includes images, business cards, and text files. If you can't post without using an attachment, please contact a Consortium member for assistance. If you have a graphic or other file you think may interest the list, feel free to post an announcement offering to send it privately.

AWARDS?
Not here. Check out the Whammy's if you want slash awards.

THE CONSORTIUM
The Consortium is available to address specific concerns as well as to give advice about fic, et cetera. If you have a problem or a question, please consider contacting them privately.

Tamy, List Mistress, ScullySlash-admin@ma-at.net, list owner/administration, website owner and other things...
Susan P., List Moderator...
alice ttlg, List Moderator, archivist and webmistress...

To reach all Consortium members, just drop a line to theconsortium@populli.net, it will only go to the consortium members, not the entire Scully Slash list.

CROSSPOSTING
No letter to the list may be crossposted to another list without the original author's permission.

FEEDBACK
Send it! Privately, or publicly, brief or verbose, just send it. If you read a story that says "no public discussion, please honor the author's request and send them comments privately. If you are not a member, and want to comment on a story, please email the author directly, or send it to theconsortium@populli.net and it will be forwarded to the author.

MEMBERSHIP
If you know someone who might be interested, tell them to write the Consortium at theconsortium@populli.net.

IF I HAVE MORE THAN ONE EMAIL ADRESS?
You can subscribe from as many email addresses as you want. All I ask is that you let me know, for my own info and so I will approve your request to join the list, that way I know how many people are actually on this list. You can also set your extra addresses to NoMail (i.e., you can post from them and not get double or triple the mail). You can change your delivery options for all your subscribed email addresses at the list websites (see the links on the Email Lists page).

SPOILERS
When discussing specific recent episodes, please use spoiler information and space. Give the air date of the episode and the ep name (if you know it) that you are spoiling, then leave fifteen lines of spoiler space, put a character on each line, like a * (star, above the number 8 on the keyboard), otherwise some email programs will delete the spoiler space. "Recent episodes" includes the current and previous season, so at the moment, seasons 8 & 9.

STORIES?
PLEASE! Post Scully Slash Stories. See more detailed guidelines about posting stories below.

STORY CONTENT
Not all stories are X rated or NC-17. Some are G, PG or PG-13. Some are NC-17 for the violence or language, rather than the sex. Read the warnings on *every* story. Anything is welcome here, as long as it is female, slashy, and X-Files. And not just Scully Slash, any female slash involving any X-Files character is welcome here. Keep in mind, all stories will have some level of female/female sex (depicted or spoken/thought about) in them. That's why they are "slash". Problem with that? Unsubscribe.

Minor Fic
Any content involving minors and sex cannot be allowed on the list or the website archive since it violates the TOS of our host for both the list and the website.

FORMATTING
Your post will be most easily read if you restrict the line length to 70 or less characters, use plain text (no curly or "smart" quotes), and separate paragraphs with a blank line. Nothing longer than 25k per post, and be sure to only quote what is absolutely neccesary from the original post to get your point across.

THEMES?
We have themes that get tossed out to the list once in awhile. Some people will call them challenges. Basically, it is an idea someone has that they post to the list, then anyone and everyone can run with that idea. Recently, we've had Halloween and Christmas theme ideas, as well as elevator sex and public places themes.

TOPICS
This list is for discussing and posting fiction about f/f X-Files slash, concentrating on, but not limited to, Scully slash. Discussion about characterization, writing, and other relevant topics is encouraged. Discussion should be kept to the topic of Scully, female slash and the show, as opposed to Gillian Anderson and her real life.

LIST WEBSITE AND ARCHIVE
Our Homepage is the ScullySlash Archive. The Archive provides an area for links to the list members' home pages, both personal, fanfic and professional, as well as links to related sites and lists. If you'd like your website listed on the members' page, please email the webmistress at scully-contact@populli.org. Give the url of your website(s) and an info blurb if you like. It can be any type of website, personal, other hobbies or interests, fanfic for any fandom or a professional website.

STORY POSTING GUIDELINES

All stories posted to the list will be archived at the ScullySlash Archive. If you DO NOT want your story archived here, please include a note in your story headers to that effect, for example: "DISTRIBUTION: Please do not archive." Some stories may not be archived due to content concerns, the author will be contacted in that event.

FEEDBACK?
Be sure to state if you do not want public feedback or discussion on the list of your stories. Put "No Public Discussion" in your story headers and you will only get postings from people directly, not on the list.

SPOILERS
When writing a story about an episode or the movie, be sure to mention spoiler info.

POSTING STORIES for someone else?
Posting stories for someone not on the list? Go right on ahead and post it, as long as you have the author's permission, and please give the author's email address for comments.

STORY CONTENT
Please exercise good judgement about story content. Reading depictions of non-consensual sexual situations really bothers some people, so consider clearly keywording this type of story. Including "real" people in your stories can also make readers uncomfortable and will probably significantly decrease your readership. The members of the Scullyslash Consortium are always happy to give you advice about content before you post to the list, feel free to email them privately at theconsortium@populli.net. Stories with "real" people in them (GA, DD, etc.) will not be included in the website archive.

Minor Fic
Any content involving minors and sex cannot be allowed on the list or the website archive since it violates the TOS of our host for both the list and the website.

RATINGS
Stories can have any ratings or be unrated. We have had some fantastic PG rated stories posted, as well as some XXX rated. Not all stories have to be graphic, anything is welcome here, as long as it is female, slashy, and X-Files. And not just Scully Slash, any female slash involving any X-Files character is welcome here.

FORMATTING
Your post will be most easily read if you restrict the line length to 70 or less characters, use plain text (no curly or "smart" quotes), and separate paragraphs with a blank line. It is preferable to break your story up into chunks of 25k or less. Be sure to label each part properly, (1/1), (1/3), (2/3), (3/3), etc. in the subject line and consider adding "end part 1," start part 3," etc, to the text. You're also urged to check out the Survival Guide to Electronic Fanfic for more detailed info about formatting fanfic.

We urge authors to use the Posting Interface here at the ScullySlash Archive, just click on "Submit" on the menu at the top left side of every page. The posting interface will not only archive your story immediately, it will also properly format it and split it into smaller parts and post it to the ScullySlash list and any other mailing lists that you select. (Please note that your feedback email address must be subscribed to those lists in order to post your story to them.) The posting interface can save you and the archivist lots of work so you have more time to write and more people can read your story!

STORY HEADERS

Adding the following information to the beginning of your story will be helpful to your readers: title, author, email for feedback, distribution, crossposting, episodes that are spoiled, rating, keywords, warnings, notes, summary. For example:

SCULLY & XENA GET IT ON
      by Leia, Warrior Princess
      Feedback to leia@forcemail.com
      (no public discussion, please!)
      Distribution: Please Archive
      Crossposting: XFF, atxc
      Keywords: Crossover, B&D
Rating: NC17 for sex & violence
Spoilers: Xena: none, XF: Memento Mori
Summary: Scully has a strange dream
      about a sexy warrior princess.

Keywords could include: B&D, character death, MSR, non-consensual acts, crossover, humour, and anything else you can think of. You don't have to include keywords, but you might want to note that you are leaving them out deliberately.

DISCLAIMER
Be sure, when you post a story, to use at least the standard disclaimer. Look at any story to get an idea.

Special thanks to Adrian who helped with the original set up of the website, early Guideline, computer and list help. To Hal for her ongoing help on the consortium, as well as the archiving of the stories. And to DanaLissa who sat on Instant messenger with me while I rewrote all this stuff.

And thanks to all you list members who have contributed over the time, and those of you who are here to read and keep us going.
